Bluegrass Legend Doug Dillard of The Dillards & The Darlings Dead at 75 « TopicSpotter
Born March 6, 1937 in Salem, Missouri, Doug Dillard, a celebrated bluegrass musician also known for playing one of The Darling boys on “The Andy Griffith Show,” passed away in Nashville on May 16, 2012, following a lengthy illness. Dillard’s death closely follows the death of fellow Mayberrian and Nashvillian, George Lindsey, best known as Goober Pyle, who died on May 6.

Nashville has lost another Mayberry icon with the passing of Douglas Dillard on May 16, another talented entertainer associated with “The Andy Griffith Show.”The death of Dillard follows the death of George Lindsey, best known as Goober Pyle, on May 6.

George Lindsey Celebrates 83rd Birthday
December 17 was actor George “Goober” Lindsey’s 83rd birthday. At a gathering held for the actor during the week of his 83rd birthday, inspired by my recent series on “Aging Gracefully,” I had the opportunity to ask Lindsey the question “What is the secret of a long life?” As you might imagine, his answer was both unexpected and funny.
